When you invest in a custom-made dining table, you naturally want every detail to perfectly match your wishes. The table top is the heart of the table, but the base is at least as important. This determines not only the stability, but also the appearance of the table. With us, you can combine your ideal table top with a base of your choice. In this blog, we discuss the table legs from our range that you can choose for both elongated and round dining tables.
Table leg options for straight, oval and organic tables
When purchasing an elongated table – whether it is rectangular, oval or organically shaped – you have the choice of placing the legs on the sides of the table or going for a centre leg.
A leg under each corner of the table
Most dining tables that are sold still have four legs, which makes this type of base timeless and durable. Although all our bases form a sturdy and stable base for your dining table, a leg in each corner is of course ideally resistant to wobbling. In short, ideal for smaller children who like to crawl under tables or hang on them. Are you looking for a table where the legs are attached under the corners?
Solid straight (Columbus): For a robust or rustic look, you can opt for four column legs. These provide such a solid base that you can even stand an egg upright on them (hence the name after the egg of Columbus, but it is certainly a world leg too!). The only thing to keep in mind is that these table legs can take up some space for the dining room chairs, especially at the ends of the table. Therefore, choose a slightly larger table top so that this does not detract from the seating comfort.
Please note: the Columbus base fits less well under the oval base shape. Would you still like to make this combination? Please contact us.
Narrow beveled (I leg beveled 3x6 kal): This elegant option consists of four narrow legs that are attached with a slight bevel. Traditional yet unique! They are not only very stable, but also give a refined look to your table.
Classic straight (Ace): Although this narrow straight table leg only fits under a rectangular table top without curves, this classic should not be missing from the range. The Ace is not only of the highest quality, but also timeless and can be combined well with any top material or size.
Table legs on both sides at the end
In addition to four legs at each corner, you can also opt for a table where the legs are attached to both ends of the table.
Y, V or X leg (Scissor / I leg slanted 4x4 tur / VV): This trendy two-piece base offers stability without making a massive impression. In addition, they are suitable for all our elongated table shapes. Both Scissor and VV cross each other in the middle of the leg, while the I leg slanted 4x4 tur comes together from wide to the ground at the point of attachment to the top. Although they can take up some space for chairs at the table ends, they give a contemporary and elegant look to your dining table.
U-leg in the middle (Half plus): With only one narrow leg per side, this base takes up minimal space under the table, which is a major advantage of this leg. Thanks to the horizontal flat crossbeam reinforced with a smaller vertical crossbeam (which make a plus sign on the floor), stability is not compromised.
Cheek leg (Block / Freya): The block leg, also known as cheek leg, is rectangular and as wide as the table top. Freya is a solid oval variant of the block leg, which will make the appearance of your table extra robust. These bases can get in the way at the head of the table, but it is the perfect choice for those looking for a solid and durable base that is just that little bit different. Because we make these bases from wood, we recommend combining them with a ceramic or solid oak top.
Corner leg (Moon / Andor): The corner leg that we named after the moon is a flat and straight piece of wood that makes a moon-shaped angle lengthwise. This table leg can be mounted to the table top with the hollow side facing inwards or outwards. Our Andor leg has a sleek 90° angle where the wood is partly cut away from the corner, which gives a spatial and playful effect. These wooden bases fit best under a ceramic or oak top of maximum 240 cm.
Solid round (Columbus duo / mix): Especially with our Concrete Look table tops you can choose a Columbus duo or mix base of the same material. Columbus duo consists of two solid round legs and Columbus mix has one round and one block leg. This exceptional combination of base and material is reminiscent of classical antiquity. Keep in mind that this must fit in well with your style and the rest of your interior. That said, this table will definitely be an eye-catcher in your dining room.
Sled leg (Cube with/without beam): Our Cube base consists of four steel legs under each corner which are connected to each other along the entire edge of the table at the top. This type is suitable for our straight table top and can be further reinforced with a horizontal beam on the edge over the long side.
A table leg in the middle
A leg in the middle of the dining table looks more spacious, which can be advantageous in a smaller dining room. In addition, the entire edge of the table is available for placing dining chairs, because a center leg is not in the way here. Note that there may be less space under the table, especially if you have long legs.
Spin leg or Matrix leg (Spin / Matrix / Anna / Jeroen): This option is both trendy and playful. It gives an open, spacious effect and is a dynamic addition to your dining table. Because this base has a wide support surface, it offers sufficient sturdiness. In order to guarantee stability, we recommend a maximum length of 220 cm for Matrix Ultra and 240 cm for Spin, Anna and Jeroen. Matrix Thin is suitable for any size.
Thin Center Leg on Stand (Giro Oval / Ilona): This steel base consists of one slender leg in the middle of the table. This is a very elegant option and only takes up minimal space under the table, which also gives the table plenty of legroom. For both Giro Oval and Ilona we recommend a table size of maximum 240 cm.
Robust Middle Leg (Sjors): For a more robust look, you can choose Sjors, our solid oval middle leg. This metal base can be combined with any table top up to 240 cm.
Table leg options for round dining tables
For round dining tables, it is best to choose a base in the middle of the table. In addition to the advantages of a leg in the middle described above, it radiates balance for a round table and you can always distribute the dining chairs nicely around the table without the leg getting in the way.
Double cross leg (Cross Leg Thin / Cross Leg Ultra / Stella): This open and elegant table leg in combination with a round table top takes up minimal space. This allows you to make maximum use of the spatial effect, giving you an optically larger dining room. In addition, this option is extremely stable because there are multiple support points on both the top and the floor. The frame of our Cross Leg Thin is the widest, followed by the Cross Leg Ultra. Both have a relatively low crossing point, which takes up a little more foot space than the Stella model. Stella has the narrowest frame in this category.
Solid straight tripod (Columbus Middle): This base consists of three straight column legs which are placed in the middle of the top. Columbus contributes to a robust and rural atmosphere. In addition to being a very solid choice, this unique combination also gives your table an original look.
Round center leg (Cone / Columbus Round): A round center leg is the perfect base for those looking for simplicity with style . As the name suggests, Cone is cone-shaped, with the wide side on the ground, which gives this whole a balanced impression. Specifically in combination with a concrete-look table top, you can also opt for a Columbus Round base in the same material, which leg has the same thickness everywhere.
Corner leg middle (Moon middle): The Moon middle table leg consists of two wooden moon-shaped parts which are mounted with the corners against each other under the top. You can only choose this option as standard with a round or straight table top with an oak layer.
